Another key in taking thoughts captive and keeping our minds from being overburdened with care and worry concerning what we may be currently facing is building up our hope and expectation on what God has before us – waaay over.

“…he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.” – Psalm 121: 3b-4 When it comes to watching over His people, God is completely and totally aware of what is going on in our lives at all times. The word “slumber” here is given in the same sense of “nodding off.” In other words He doesn’t get tired and doesn’t get weary. Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah. – Psalm 32:7 When a scandal breaks in the news, we find that the attempt to conceal the evidence of wrongdoing is often even more scandalous than the original wrong deeds. Interestingly enough, it is commonly referred to as a “cover-up”. Adam was involved in a “cover-up” in the garden, God called out to Adam in Genesis 3 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord - James 1:6.7 Some may say “Oh when I pray, I just ask and leave it up to God ‘cause He knows best.” Well certainly He does but praying “if it’s the Lord’s will” works with goals and planning (James 4:15) but, sorry, according to the scriptures that’s not good enough concerning what He expressly tells us. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31 One of the most vital things for a believer to grasp is an understanding of who they are in Christ. Security in this knowledge gives a broad foundation to stand, trust, and move through faith in God’s love and promises. Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. - Psalm 23:5b
As we continue in the fifth verse, the imagery of the given phrases can be used (and have been used) to say many things but keeping the context of the sheep and their confidence in their shepherd is vital to the faith aspect.
