The context of this verse is really tied to verse 13 which says, “And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.” One may first ask that if “the time of figs was not yet” then why did the master expect to see figs? Background study shows that the fig tree produces two types of figs: One, the early fig (also referred to as “winter” or “green” figs) called “paggim” which were a smaller fig produced on the strength of nutrients left in the branch during the winter, and the second was the full fig which was produced later after the leaves. So, ultimately, although it was not time for the “full” figs, if it had leaves it was communicating that it at least had early figs.

Naturally, there will be times of disagreements, confrontations, and words spoken without the loving attitude that we would like but that is not what this writing is addressing. This “Taking Thoughts” section is dealing with after the initial words have been said or offensive action made. Many times we do the right thing in holding our tongue at the time of the trial. But then afterwards…  I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. – Psalms 34:1
Many don’t realize the destructive force of worry and doubt. They are a part of Satan’s system of fear that can deafen the ears of the believer from hearing God’s voice of direction, open doors to satan to meddle in our lives, and hinder the effectiveness of our faith. When we feel that we have too much on our mind, it could be a sign of not enough from our mouth. Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath Ephesians 4:26
Many take this verse to think that it’s okay to be angry, mad and begrudging of others ALL day…just as long as you take care of it by night time. I realize that even some bible translations imply this. Yet, this is a misconception that not only can be tremendously faith hindering, but also goes against the unity “…he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.” – Psalm 121: 3b-4 When it comes to watching over His people, God is completely and totally aware of what is going on in our lives at all times. The word “slumber” here is given in the same sense of “nodding off.” In other words He doesn’t get tired and doesn’t get weary.  Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah. – Psalm 32:7 When a scandal breaks in the news, we find that the attempt to conceal the evidence of wrongdoing is often even more scandalous than the original wrong deeds. Interestingly enough, it is commonly referred to as a “cover-up”. Adam was involved in a “cover-up” in the garden, God called out to Adam in Genesis 3 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? - Matthew 14:31 This verse is from the passage where the disciples were on a boat at night and Jesus comes to them walking on the water. Seeing that they were troubled, the Lord calls out to them, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. “ (v.27) 2 Corinthians 2:14 “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.” In the Greek, the phrase “causeth us to triumph” is an expression of a word that more closely translates to “leads us in or to triumph”. In other words, God is not as much “causing" it as He is leading us in it. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. - 2 Timothy 1:7 When in times of trial and weakness, remember to fan the flames of what God put in you as a believer; the tenacity, the boldness, the spiritual backbone. You may feel inept or unqualified to handle or deal with certain things and the  What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31 One of the most vital things for a believer to grasp is an understanding of who they are in Christ. Security in this knowledge gives a broad foundation to stand, trust, and move through faith in God’s love and promises. |
