Experience is the ‘Best’ Teacher?

He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap. - Ecclesiastes 11:4

It’s only natural that an experienced farmer would know what weather conditions are best for which activities to ultimately get the best harvest.  If he looks outside and it seems too windy then he says, “Not a good day

for seeding.” If he looks outside and the clouds look heavy then he says, “Not a good day for harvesting.” Year after year his experience has taught him to rely on these natural observations. The problem is that he can only achieve and excel to the level of his own insight, resources and wisdom; and if the whole season is overly-effected by bad weather, his harvest is equally affect because his overall results are based in this natural system.

Our experience speaks to us in like manner: what we can accomplish, what we can afford, what we should expect, how much we can give, who we can trust, and so on. Yet, in Luke chapter 5, we see Jesus called out some instructions to Peter, who was an experienced fisherman that had been working all night and caught nothing and who was already in the process of cleaning and putting away his nets and tools. Jesus told him to go back out and let down his nets for a haul. Peter agreed against his own experience and we see to his astonishment that it actually worked and his net was overwhelmed with fish. The key is that while experience in life is a great asset, it can also be a great hindrance to see beyond. There is access to results above and beyond the natural, every time. We should be careful not to allow our natural thinking to block our spiritual seeing for our super-natural results.

My ever-present and ever-speaking Father, how majestic is Your name in all the Earth. Thank you for speaking to my heart and guiding me in blessed, prosperous paths. I am thankful for my experiences and what they have taught me in life. Yet, I trust You with all my heart and I don’t lean to my own understanding. Through you I am fully guided, guarded, counseled, enlightened, and empowered. Thank you for reminding me that I am never at the mercy of my circumstances, and I should not allow them to dictate to me. I dictate to them through the words that You speak to me and change is seen, speedily. I humbly receive your instructions in walking uprightly and your exceeding abundant will on my life. In the name of Yahshua the Messiah (Christ Jesus) I pray.

Hear me, my experience, as of today you will never again be my greatest teacher. That job solely and fully goes to the Spirit of God that resides in me through Christ. I appreciate your willingness to help but you are limited and short-sighted at best. My God has a better, more accurate, more fulfilling, and more empowering way for me to live. I may refer to you in my decision-making process, but when He speaks there is no longer a need to confer with family, friends, professionals, or you, my experience. My response to Him is always “amen.”
