He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. – Psalm 23:2 This part of the shepherd’s provision shows his understanding of the sheep’s frailty during a tough journey. He doesn’t just run them ragged. He “makes” them lie down is not as in “force” them but the Hebrew word used (shavah) literally means “to level” or to bring to composure. The “still waters” refers to the travel path of the sheep. The Lord brought to my mind about the distraction of noise: “He said, she said”, “Oh, the economy”, “Gas prices!”, “I heard they might be laying off", "Flu Season!!”. Some of these things may be happening but we can’t afford to meditate on the fear, stress, frustration and uncertainty of the noise. The Lord wants us to walk with internal peace. We need to listen to His directions above the noise of everyday life. Happy trails!!
Lord, regardless of what I see or am presently experiencing, I know that you are bringing me to green, restful pastures; areas in life where I can just let go of stuff and rest in you. I refuse to allow the noise of the world to choke my hopes and dreams. I am aware of present circumstances but I never focus on them. I am never overcome by evil, but I overcome evil with good. Teach me, Lord, to set aside daily quiet time that our relationship may grow and that I may attune my ears to hear the best path to walk in your peace. I esteem Your name Yahshua (Jesus) above all others. Rom. 12:21; Isa. 32:18
