Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven - Matt 5:16 Ok, so many of us grew up with the song, “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.” Yet, why is the word “little” in there? It’s not in the scripture. It comes from the same place where a great singer while preparing to sing may say, “Y’all pray for me. My voice is a little hoarse today”…and then proceeds to WRECK the house. Plainly put, this is a religious spirit of false humility: “My little part”, “I’ll try” or “I’ll do my best”. If I ask someone to pray or read a scripture and they respond with, “Okay, I’ll do my best”, it makes me want to say, “If all I’m going to get is 'your' best, then maybe I should ask someone else to do it.” If, as many say, 'It’s all about God', then why are we not more confident in Him to move through us? The spirit of false humility will always make us see ourselves as small, while causing us to minimize the expectation of what God can do through us.
It’s understandable. More than anyone, we know our own faults, failures, and shortcomings. Yet, this has NOTHING to do with God’s ability or willingness to use us in great ways. But it starts with us seeing ourselves in the grace of His light and love. We should never see our Kingdom contribution as little for as we think in our hearts so is it. Yahshua (Jesus) said that, “You are the light of the world.” THE WORLD! Not just your house, block, or city. But do you believe it? Then receive it. This is what true humility is: Lowering yourself or your will to receive something greater upon you. Just receive it, declare it, and stand in it. The Lord will mold and direct you from there. Now about that song, I’m not saying don’t sing it anymore. Maybe just leave that word out when you do. :) Heavenly, gracious Father, we praise your most worthy name and thank you for loving, forgiving and equipping your people to be a light in this world. In You we live, and move, and have our being. You teach us to profit and show us the way we should go in life. May we never be ashamed to be counted among those called of Jesus Christ. As good works are produced through us, may it bring glory to your name and win souls to the kingdom. With this as a focus we show ourselves truly wise. In the name of Yahshua (Jesus) we pray. In the name of Yahshua (Jesus), I stay mindful of the truth that by faith the Israelites passed through the Red sea on dry land, by faith the walls of Jericho fell down, and by Faith I overcome all obstacles in my life. My light in this world is a great light. I am ordained to overcome and bring glory my Father. I am like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth fruit in season. My leaf shall not wither; and whatever I do prospers…everytime. Psalms 1:3; Matthew 5:14; Hebrews 11:30
