And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? - Matthew 14:31 This verse is from the passage where the disciples were on a boat at night and Jesus comes to them walking on the water. Seeing that they were troubled, the Lord calls out to them, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. “ (v.27) Peter responds, “Lord, if it is you, tell me to come to you on the water” and Jesus says “Come”. Peter did and walked on the water (v.29). Now let’s look at verse 30 as it leads into our theme verse, 31:
“But when he (Peter) saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.” Here we find the true unreasonable nature of fear, doubt and confusion; and why it is so detrimental to our faith walk. Seeing the ‘forcefulness of the storm’ made Peter fearful, but the fact is that if it were a nice, quiet, bright sunny day on a still and peaceful lake, what he was already doing would have still been IMPOSSIBLE anyway. He was making it ONLY because of the grace of God through a word, “Come.” Worry blinds us from seeing this. Why fear a storm, ANY storm, when the ONLY reason that you have made it this far is God’s grace? Situations and circumstances don’t change this fact: Since I already couldn’t make it without Him, if things start to seem worse, I’m still in the same faithful hands that brought me this far. He will see me through. Father, it is a pleasure to put my trust in you. Your power is awesome beyond my understanding, Your wisdom is expansive beyond my searching, and Your love is boundless beyond my comprehension. Yet, it is Your pleasure that Your power, wisdom and love abound in me though Christ. I receive it that I may be, do, and have according to Your word for Your glory. And regardless of what I may face, since I already couldn’t make it without You, if things start to seem worse, I will not doubt, but I will rejoice in that I’m still in the same faithful hands that brought me this far. You will see me through. Since I already couldn’t make it without Him, if things start to seem worse, I will not doubt, but I will rejoice in that I am still in the same faithful hands that brought me this far. He will see me through. Since I already couldn’t make it without Him, if things start to seem worse, I will not fear, but I will rejoice in that I am still in the same faithful hands that brought me this far. He will see me through. Since I already couldn’t make it without Him, if things start to seem worse, I will not worry, but I will rejoice in that I am still in the same faithful hands that brought me this far. He will see me through. Since I already couldn’t make it without Him, if things start to seem worse, I will not quit, but I will rejoice and move forward. I am still in the same faithful hands that brought me this far. He will see me through. Lam 3:22; Psalm 124:2-3; Eph 3:10
