According to the U.S. Food and Drug Association (FDA) only a drug can legally make a claim to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Understand, then, that the billions of dollars ($5.1 budgeted in 2010) that the National Cancer Institute (NCI) spends yearly is doing just that: Looking to find and market a drug, not necessarily a cure. If a “cure” was found from a natural food, herb or supplement, two things are clear. One, it would not be able to legally be called a cure because foods are not drugs. Two, why spend billions of dollars researching something that can’t be patented for exclusive right or that people could grow in their own back yard? Knowing this, is it really beyond possibility that in order to protect the interests of big business that the results of certain studies concerning those foods could be purposefully downplayed in the media or presented with bias? Or, taken further, that something could even be publicly “demonized’ as unhealthy or made illegal? THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is the active chemical in Cannabis, which comes from the flowering tops and leaves of the hemp plant, the source of the illegal drug marijuana. Yet, this documentary is not about smoking it, as this drastically reduces THC benefits, but taking it in a much-documented oil form. Also, this is not about trying to legalize it, with all of the substance abuse issues that we already have, but to work with the legal system to get better access to it. The underlying question behind this documentary is, “If a cure was found, everybody would be happy, right?"
